Amazed TSA agents discovered a cat stashed in a duffel bag at a JFK International Airport.

Agents discovered the cat in a piece of luggage as it passed through security at New York Airport on Tuesday morning.

They saw a tuft of orange fur sticking out of an opening in the zipper of the bag, and upon opening the case, they discovered the red cat.

A spokesperson for the TSA said employees were “appalled” by the discovery, which was made only after the bag had gone through security’s x-ray.

The man who owned the bag said he didn’t know he had bagged the cat, but noted it belonged to someone in the house he had just left.

The cat’s owner later told the New York Post that the cat’s name was Smells and that she probably got into the bag of her own accord before the passenger left for the airport.

Smells has since been returned to her owner.

The TSA shared a picture of the x-ray they took of the bag, which showed the clear shape of a car nestled between shoes and a number of toiletries and bottles

The TSA shared images of the surprising find in a tweet on Tuesday.

“We’re letting the cat out of the bag with a historic find,” they wrote. ‘This CATch had our baggage checkers say @JFKairport, ‘Come on meow’!

“On the bright side, the cat is out of the bag and home safely,” a TSA spokesperson said.

The cat’s owner, a 37-year-old Brooklyn resident named Alix, said she didn’t even realize the cat was missing until she got a call from the TSA.

“An officer called and asked if I wanted to press charges,” she told The Post. “He wanted to know if there was a reason he was trying to steal my cat and go to Florida.”

Alix insisted the incident was just an accident, and that if anyone was to blame, it was Smells himself.

Our cats really enjoy checking out bags and boxes and apparently one has climbed into his trunk. It was just an accident,’ Alix said.

Alix said as she hurried to JFK that she feared Smells would be traumatized by the ordeal. Odors, however, were unmoved.

“I was afraid he’d panic, but on the way back he didn’t even meow,” Alex said. “I went to give him some extras and he acted like nothing happened.”
