There has been a lot of talk about the Arizona Cardinals and their position as head coach.
After years of steady inclination, Kliff Kingsbury — who was fired from Texas Tech before stumbling forward in his current role — now finds his seat pretty warm, at least from an outsider’s perspective.
We’ve seen people like general manager Steve Keim vouch for Kingsbury, but talk is cheap. Results were expected with this ball club, and they failed to deliver.
Chalk it up due to injuries, substitution schedule, etc. At the end of the day, wins are what you need to keep your job, and that’s something Kingsbury hasn’t understood.
Rumors and whispers about his job security only grow louder with each loss, as the Cardinals have yet to win any back-to-back games this season. A handful of talented superstars are only getting older, and with Murray under huge extension, there’s pressure to win. Utilities.
Should the Cardinals be on the Kingsbury train, there are a few different options, but none make more sense than Super Bowl winning coach Sean Payton.
Rumor has it that Payton, who dropped out of New Orleans, is back on the hunt for another shot at the NFL.
According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler, the Cardinals are one of Payton’s shortlisted teams.
“Indy and Carolina are already open and people are watching Denver closely as a potential opening. Arizona will be on the waiting list if the Cardinals don’t turn things around,” said Graziano.
“But I feel like he’s going to be picky and look first and foremost for a place where the QB situation is solid. That’s why I think a lot of people are linking him to a potential Chargers opening. People would be in the lining up for coach Justin Herbert when that job opens up.

“If it’s not there, I’ve been told to look at Arizona as a potential Payton destination (again, assuming there’s an opening there). should give compensation in exchange for Payton, as he is still under contract with New Orleans.”
All Cardinals spoke to one source who acknowledged there was “interest” from Payton in the Cardinals job, but for now that’s all – interest.
Arizona will have to pay their share of the deal to make sure this happens, while also giving up some sort of capital to acquire him, as the Saints technically still have him under contract.
It’s also unclear exactly where the Cardinals rank on the pecking order for Payton, though it seems the Chargers are the most likely team to get him at this point (no source on that, just an observation).
But amidst the whirlwind of rumors and whispers, there is some traction in Payton, possibly heading for the desert.
