• The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team advanced to the SoCal Challenge Championship game after an overtime win against California Baptist Monday night. Dawson Garcia provided the game-winning shot with 6.8 seconds remaining for Minnesota’s fourth win of the season and a 62–61 overtime victory. Minnesota will face UNLV at 7:30 p.m., as the Rebels defeated Southern Illinois 56-49 on Monday.
• The win marked Minnesota’s first overtime win since the 2021 Asheville Championship, when the Gophers clinched the championship with an 87-80 victory over Princeton. Garcia’s final possession marked the first time the Gophers accomplished the feat since February 11, 2021, when Marcus Carr hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds left vs. Purdue. It also marked the first time since December 28, 2020 (Michigan State – 16) that the Gophers allowed fewer than 20 points in the half as it held the Lancers to 18 in the first half on Monday.
• Minnesota welcome back Jamison battle to the Gopher lineup Monday night. The preseason All-Big Ten roster underwent foot surgery for the home opener and was sidelined for the first four games of the season. He added 11 points in 36 minutes of play in his season debut Monday.
Pharrell Payne added his first collegiate double-double when he had 15 points and 13 rebounds. It was Minnesota’s first double-double since then Jamison Battles 21 pts, 14 rbs., vs Northwestern on 2/19/2022. Monday also marked Ta’Lon Cooper’s 100th collegiate career game. He played in 95 at Morehead State before moving to Minnesota this year.
• The last time the Golden Gophers faced UNLV was December 30, 2007 when the Rebels and Gophers played in the Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas. Minnesota went 2-1 in that tournament as the host, UNLV, beat the Gophers 81-64. Blake Hoffarber led Minnesota with 13 points and four rebounds, followed by Dan Coleman with 10 points and eight rebounds.

• The Gophers compete in the Golden State for the first time since the 2012-2013 season, when Minnesota defeated Southern California 71-57 on December 8, 2012. Hollins with 14 points, as four players scored in double digits. The last time the Gophers faced a team from California was Loyola Marymount in 2020-21 when it visited Minneapolis for back-to-back games.
• Minnesota has three team ties to the state of California. freshman Jade Henley comes from Ontario, California, while Taurus Samuels hails from Oceanside, California. Assistant coach Marcus Jenkin is also a native of California, hailing from Lompoc. The Golden Gophers also signed Dennis Evans for 2023, who hails from Riverside, California.

• Minnesota is back on the road after the SoCal Challenge when it competes in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge November 28 when it visits Virginia Tech. Playtime is set for and will be broadcast on ESPN2. The broadcast will also be available on KFAN, 100.3 FM.
