Andrea Vigil, the COO and co-founder of Allegiant Electric LLC, a Las Vegas-based full-service commercial and residential electrical contractor, has been recognized as the 2022 Region IX Small Business Person of the Year, representing Guam, California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii. She was also named Small Business Person of the Year in Nevada by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
The annual award is part of the SBA’s National Small Business Week program, which recognizes small businesses and their leader’s entrepreneurial development and community impact. The SBA said this year’s honorees played a critical role in supporting the country’s historic economic comeback while coping with the setbacks of the pandemic.
“The challenges that affected almost every industry served as my motivation to make sure my company, family and team members didn’t face even more uncertainty at work,” said Vigil. “As a small business owner and leader, I am directly responsible for my team members, as well as their families. That is why I have given everything I have to ensure our professional, financial and personal survival.”
Part of Vigil’s recognition stemmed from its ability to meet payroll, hire eight new employees, purchase three additional service vehicles and increase job posting capacity to $1 million during the pandemic. The SBA also recognized its long-term business achievements and community involvement, including a 59 percent increase in revenue in four years and annual volunteer work with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department and Cox Communications.
Vigil and her husband Anthony co-founded the company in 2015 and have since established it as a Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB), Woman Business Enterprise (WBE), Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Small Business Enterprise (SBE), Nevada Local Emerging Small Business (ESB), Local Disadvantaged Business (LDB), and Local Small Business (LSB) company.
“Such recognition reinforces my efforts to establish my presence as an innovative small business and industry leader,” said Vigil. “As my business continues to grow, I plan to further expand my reach to serve as a voice in representing small, female-owned businesses in Nevada and across the country.”
Since receiving the award, Vigil has been invited by both Vice President Kamala Harris and U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto to discuss the issues facing small business leaders, including with the White House Small Business Leaders Mitigation and a luncheon between Nevada small businesses and minority-owned businesses. She was the only Nevadan and electrician to attend the Small Business Leaders Mitigation.
